One of the most popular traditions of the Easter holidays is to visit Sydney’s annual Royal Easter Show, which starts from 23 March in 2018. First held in 1823, the Show is Australia’s largest annual ticketed event, attracting over 850,000 attendees on average. Revenue generated by it allows the RAS to invest in agricultural programs, competitions, education, youth and rural NSW. In all, the RAS invests almost $7 million annually in these activities which are designed to promote agricultural excellence and keep our rural communities strong. The Sydney Royal Easter Show is a celebration of Australian culture, from our rural traditions to our modern day lifestyles, providing unique experiences for everyone. Every Easter, the country and city join together at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, for twelve days of agricultural competitions, animal experiences, live entertainment, carnival fun, shopping and much more. To read more about how the Show supports agricultural development and rural communities visit the Giving Back page on the RAS website.

What’s not to be missed at the Sydney Royal Show?
Be sure to check these highlights out at this year’s Show:
- The Grand Parade
This huge parade is believed to have been the first of its kind back in 1907 and is still something to behold. Wave on as you watch primary producers, community leaders, wood-chopping champions and of course, plenty of interesting animals pass by at Spotless Stadium.
- Games and rides
Whether you’re up for wild thrills at the Coca-Cola Carnival or something more relaxing like a pony ride, there is a ride for everyone at this year’s Show. The kids can run riot in the Sea Circus featuring three levels of tricks, or go crazy on the Dodgem cars.
- Animals of all shapes and sizes
Here’s your chance to see sheep shearing, horse handling and the daily workings of a dairy in action. Make your way to the puppy competition for a daily dose of cuteness, then watch the Canine Hero Awards for the best and bravest in furry companions.
- Pumpkins aplenty
It may sound a little strange, but we can’t wait to check out The Great Backyard Pumpkin Challenge in 2018. The 2015 record still stands for the biggest pumpkin weighing in at a whopping 728kg. Even if that isn’t broken, it’s worth checking out the pumpkins in disguise!
